The holiday season is among us again, and before we settle down and celebrate with our families, the officers and members of watkins street bring their families together to meet santa clause and share a few laughs. Santa came in early in the afternoon but not before the brothers were called to 10-75 was transmitted for a fire in laundromat a block away from quarters on Osborn. We thank Connor Norman (L120) and Chris Kopchinsky (E231) for getting into character as santa and his elf to spread christmas cheer and hand out presents to the kids.
A week later the annual Christmas Party and reunion was held at Kaseys Kitchen and Cocktails. Well over a hundred current and former members were present to share stories and celebrate the holidays. Throughout the night the newest members of Watkins Street were introduced to the men and a couple more senior members has some nice words to share about their time on Watkins Street. A plaque was presented to FF Bill “Poppy” Mclaughlin (E231) for his 19 years of service on Watkins Street. Poppy was an integral part of the firehouse always working behind the scenes to make sure the house ran smoothly and the junior guys always help up the traditions of the firehouse. Lt. Leo Tineo presented the house with an amazing wood sculpture of the house patch and reflected on his time on Watkins Street. Leo worked in both 231 and 120 during his tenure on Watkins Street. Over his time he grew a reputation as an outstanding firefighter and never backed down from a challenge on the fireground. These were two huge losses to the firehouse and we wish them luck as they move forward in their careers.
